The Truths of Grace: Your Shield of Faith

"In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."
Ephesians 6:16

Satan will never stop shooting his flaming arrows of lies toward our hearts and minds. His lies are always in conflict with the truth of the grace of God freely given to us in Jesus. When his lies come, we shield our hearts and minds from his lies by faith, or by believing the truths of grace.

Here are the truths of grace from the book of Ephesians to believe when Satan seeks to deceive.

Satan will tell you that you are only a sinner saved by grace...the truth of grace is that you are a saint now that grace has saved you (1:1; 3:18).

Satan will tell you that God is angry with you...the truth is God sends you grace and peace (1:2).

Satan will tell you that you are not blessed by God or you have to earn his blessings through obedience...the truth is you have already been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ (1:3).

Satan will tell you that God sees you as dirty and guilty…the truth of grace is that God sees you as holy and blameless (1:4).

Satan will tell you that you are not a loved son or daughter of God…the truth of grace is that you are a dearly loved child of God and he takes pleasure in having you as his child (1:5; 5:1).

Satan will tell you that God will not give you grace…the truth of grace is that God has freely given you his grace in Jesus and will never withhold grace from you (1:6-8).

Satan will tell you that your sins are not fully and forever paid for by Jesus (redeemed)…the truth of grace is that your sins have been fully and forever paid for by the blood Jesus. (1:7).

Satan will tell you that all of your sins are not forgiven…the truth of grace is that, because all your sins have been paid for by the blood of Jesus, all your sins have been fully forgiven forever (1:7).

Satan will tell to live in fear of all the evil that is happening in the world…the truth of grace is that one day God, under the authority of Jesus, will bring everything together in heaven and earth into perfect unity (1:10).

Satan will tell you that, because of your sins, you are the object of God’s wrath…the truth of grace is that, because of God’s grace, you are the object of his love, mercy, and kindness (Ephesians 2).

Satan will tell you that you are not saved, or that you can lose your salvation…the truth of grace is that through faith in Jesus you are saved, made alive with Jesus, permanently seated with Christ in heaven, and will, for all eternity, experience the kindness of his grace freely given to you in Jesus (2:5-9).

Satan will tell you that you have to work for your salvation…the truth of grace is that salvation is the gift of God received simply by faith (2:8-9).

Satan will tell you that you have to do good works for God…the truth of grace is that the good works we do were prepared for us by God and we simply walk in them as we enjoy his grace (2:10).

Satan will tell you that your life has no purpose…the truth of grace is that God has prepared good things for you walk in as you experience his grace (2:10).

Satan will tell you that you are far away from God…the truth of grace is that you have been brought close to God by the blood of Jesus and have direct access to him as your loving Father (2:13-18).

Satan will tell you that you have to live under God's law...the truth of grace is that the law, with all of its regulations and commandments, has been abolished and we now live as a new family of grace with God as our Father under grace, not judge under law (2:14-18).

Satan will tell you that you are not loved by Jesus…the truth of grace is that you are loved by Jesus (3:14-19).

Satan will tell you that you will never amount to anything…the truth of grace is that God, through his love and grace at work within you, can do more through you than you could ever hope, ask, are imagine (3:20-21).

Satan will tell you that, because of grace, you can live an immoral lifestyle…the truth of grace is that, because of grace, we are to put off the old immoral way of living and put on the new way of living (4:17-5:20).

Satan will tell you that your husband or wife is your enemy…the truth of grace is that a marriage is a reflection of grace where a husband loves and cares for his wife as Jesus does his bride, the church, and where a wife, with respect, places herself under the loving and caring leadership of her husband (5:22-33).

Satan will tell you to disobey and dishonor your parents, because he wants to destroy your life…the truth of grace tells you to obey and honor your parents so you can enjoy your life (6:1-3).

Satan will tell you to be hard on your children…the truth of grace is for you to consistently model the grace of Jesus to your children and teach them about his grace (6:4).

Satan will tell you not to be a good, honorable employee, employer, or supervisor…the truth of grace tells you to be an honorable employee, employer, or supervisor (6:5-9).

These are many of the truths of grace in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians that we must use as a shield, by believing them to be true, when Satan shoots the flaming arrows of his lies towards our hearts and minds.
