Take the helmet of salvation...
Some of the most effective schemes of the devil and his evil forces are to convince us that God is angry at us, and is not loving, merciful, or kind toward us.
Another effective scheme is to convince us we can or have lost our salvation.
In Ephesians 1-2, Paul explains the nature of our salvation. Under the inspiration of the Spirit of Christ, Paul says that while we were dead in our sins, following the ways of the world, we became the objects of God's great love, abundant mercy, and bountiful grace that he kindly poured out upon is through Jesus for our sins.
Through Jesus, we have the redemption of our sins, meaning the full, final, and forever payment for sins, resulting in eternal forgiveness.
We have been adopted into God's family of grace as his dearly loved children.
God made us alive with Christ. He raised us up with Christ. He seated us with Christ in heaven.
This is what salvation is, according to Ephesians 1-2.
Salvation was bought for us and brought to us by our loving, merciful, and kind God as a gift. It is received simply by faith.(Ephesians 2:8-9).
We are saved simply by believing (Ephesians 1:13).
It is eternal. We "have been saved" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Salvation can't be earned with good works and good behavior. It can't be lost with a lack of works and bad behavior.
If our salvation could be lost, then everything freely given to us in Jesus as gifts of grace would have to be removed...reversed...and on what basis? Our works and behavior.
But, since salvation was not bestowed upon us because of our works and behavior (couldn't be since we were spiritually dead - have you ever seen a dead man working or behaving? never...), then it can't be withdrawn because of a lack works or bad behavior.
If our salvation could be lost, then Christ would have to become a sinner, die spiritually, and leave heaven. Why is this so? Because we are forgiven in Christ...made alive with Christ...raised with Christ...and seated with Christ in heaven.
The real question is this? Can Jesus become a sinner? Can Jesus die again? Can the resurrection be undone? Can Jesus be kicked of heaven? No. Then neither can we.
Believers are in and with Christ. Our salvation is eternally secure in Christ. We are safe in and with Christ.
This is our helmet of salvation.
A helmet protects our heads. The helmet of salvation protects our minds. Our thoughts about salvation must be established in the truths of who we are in Christ and the fact that we are with Christ.
So when the devil attacks you with his deceptive lies, seeking to convince you that God is angry with you, and isn't loving, merciful, or kind toward you, and that you have lost your salvation, make sure you have your helmet of salvation on where you protect yourself from his lies by thinking according to the truths of salvation...the truths that you are fully and forever forgiven in Christ and that you have been made alive with...raised with...and seated with Christ in heaven forever.
