Anchored In Grace

Many people are anchored in guilt, shame, condemnation, and fear because of past sins and regrets.

The feel distant from God.

Deep in their soul they hurt.

They are frustrated with themselves for what they did.

They tell no one.

Silently they suffer.

They've tried to escape or numb their pain in many different ways...

...drugs

...alcohol

...food

...busyness

...relationships

...gambling

...sex

...etc...

Yet the pain remains.

There are two other ways people try to escape or numb the pain of their past...

...by participating in church activities (commitment, serving, attending, joining, etc.

Proclaiming Freedom To The Captives

The Prophet Isaiah looked forward to a time when the Messiah would come, empowered by the Spirit, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. What is the year of the Lord’s favor (Isaiah 61:2)?

Grace!

Grace would flow from the lips of the Messiah.

What did the Prophet Isaiah say would be the impact when the proclamation of grace by the Messiah went out among the people? One of the impacts of grace, among many others, was freedom for those held captive! In Luke 4:16-19, the Messiah, Jesus, came into a Jewish synagogue and read from Isaiah 61:1-2.

Shame Shame Go Away!

Most of us have heard the jingle, “Rain rain go away, come again another day”. And most of us have had these words playing in our minds in some form, “Shame shame go away, don’t ever come back, not any day.” Yet our shame keeps coming back, day after day after day.

Shame is the self-disgust, self-hatred, and self-condemnation we feel toward ourselves for something we have done that we wish we would have never done. In regret, we say demeaning words to ourselves such as,

“I am so dumb.”

“I am so stupid.

Living A Life Of Perspective, Purpose, And Purity

“Join one another in following my example, brothers, and carefully observe those who live according to the pattern we set for you. For as I have often told you before, and now declare even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.

What Does It Mean To Fall From Grace? It Is Not What You Have Been Taught!

The majority of Bible teachers and preachers teach that to fall from grace means a person has sinned so greatly that they have “backslidden” or fallen away from God’s favor and back into their old lifestyle of sin. This is possibly what you were taught and have believed. You believe you have fallen away from God’s grace because of your addiction or because of immorality. In reality, you have fallen into grace.

Romans 5:20 says that where sin increased, grace increased all the more. So according to the Bible, it is impossible to sin so much that a person has out-sinned grace, or fallen from grace.

Can Fellow Believers Become Addicted To Sin?

"Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load

Social Anxiety, Addiction, and Grace

A major trigger for many people who have addictions is anxiety. In an attempt to calm themselves, they rely on different medications or alcohol. They, then, become dependent upon medication or alcohol, or a combination of the two, to relax.

Many people suffer from social anxiety. Social anxiety is the uncomfortable feelings that come from being around people. It is important to know social anxiety is real.

Many with social anxiety believe there is something terribly wrong with them. Because they feel this way, they attempt, through their addiction, to escape the uncomfortable feeling associated with social anxiety, not realizing their addiction is creating even more anxiety in their lives.

Buckled Up With The Belt Of Truth

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist...
Ephesians 6:14

We are continuing to study the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. We have discovered that we take our stand against the lies of the devil and his powerful evil forces by standing in grace, or by believing the truths of all that God has freely done for us through Jesus in Ephesians 1,2, and 3. Let's now look take a closer look atstanding firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.

The purpose of a physical belt is to hold all of our clothes together so they do not come apart.

Identifying Our Real Enemies

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly realms.
Ephesians 6:12

We all know we are in daily battles. We fight these battles every day. They are real. However, we must identify who the real enemies are in these battles if we are to fight successfully and emerge from them victoriously.

So often in life, we feel like our battles are against others with whom we have relationships.
