According to Jesus, the power of Satan grips the person who has not received God's forgiveness.
This person lives in the darkness, guilt, and shame of their sin.
The heart of Jesus is to see people freed from the powerful grip Satan has upon their lives and from the miserable darkness they live in daily, and start living in the light of God's love, forgiveness, and grace.
When people receive God's forgiveness, they are released from the power of Satan that grips them and the darkness that torments them. |

"Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load |

A major trigger for many people who have addictions is anxiety. In an attempt to calm themselves, they rely on different medications or alcohol. They, then, become dependent upon medication or alcohol, or a combination of the two, to relax.
Many people suffer from social anxiety. Social anxiety is the uncomfortable feelings that come from being around people. It is important to know social anxiety is real.
Many with social anxiety believe there is something terribly wrong with them. Because they feel this way, they attempt, through their addiction, to escape the uncomfortable feeling associated with social anxiety, not realizing their addiction is creating even more anxiety in their lives. |

How do we qualify for entrance into God's eternal kingdom? How do we gain possession of eternal life? The Bible tells us in Colossians 1:12 that the Father has qualified us to share in his loved Son's kingdom.
The word qualified means to be allowed entrance into an event or organization because a person met the standards necessary for entrance. It also means to be allowed possession of something because the necessary conditions were met by the person seeking the possession.
Because many people have never been told about the good news of God's grace, the very grace the Father provides that qualifies us entrance into his loved Son's kingdom, they spend their days trying to qualify themselves, leaving many feeling disqualified for entrance into eternal life in the kingdom. |

Preoccupation with ourselves makes us miserable!I first read this statement from Bob George in his book Classic Christianity. This is such a true statement. For many years, as a believer in Jesus, I was preoccupied with myself, my failures, my sins, my weaknesses, my shortcomings, my imperfections, my faults, etc...this list goes on and on and on... As a result, I felt guilt, shame, inadequate, unhappy, depressed, inferior, etc...and this list goes on and on and on, too! As you can imagine, I was one miserable person. |
