If you are down on yourself because you are not "committed and devoted" to the church as your church leaders say you should be...
If you are made to feel guilty because you are not involved in your church as your church leaders say you should be...
If you are made to feel guilty by your church leaders because you do not have your priorities in order since you "put other things above the church"...
If you are made to feel like you will never grow spiritually until you prioritize your life and become more committed, devoted, and involved in the church. |

Most of us have heard the jingle, “Rain rain go away, come again another day”. And most of us have had these words playing in our minds in some form, “Shame shame go away, don’t ever come back, not any day.” Yet our shame keeps coming back, day after day after day. Shame is the self-disgust, self-hatred, and self-condemnation we feel toward ourselves for something we have done that we wish we would have never done. In regret, we say demeaning words to ourselves such as,
“I am so dumb.”
“I am so stupid. |

Most, if not all of us, have said the following to God, "God, I just don't understand." The reason we have said this to God is because something has happened, or didn't happen, that we don't understand.
Maybe this is you.
You have said to God, "God, I just don't understand."
Your heart is hurting. Your mind is confused.
You were told by your Pastor, Bible teacher, small group leader, mentor, or friend that through your faith, through your right believing in the finished work of Jesus, God would bless you with a better job, a restored marriage, a healed body. |

How do we qualify for entrance into God's eternal kingdom? How do we gain possession of eternal life? The Bible tells us in Colossians 1:12 that the Father has qualified us to share in his loved Son's kingdom.
The word qualified means to be allowed entrance into an event or organization because a person met the standards necessary for entrance. It also means to be allowed possession of something because the necessary conditions were met by the person seeking the possession.
Because many people have never been told about the good news of God's grace, the very grace the Father provides that qualifies us entrance into his loved Son's kingdom, they spend their days trying to qualify themselves, leaving many feeling disqualified for entrance into eternal life in the kingdom. |

Preoccupation with ourselves makes us miserable!I first read this statement from Bob George in his book Classic Christianity. This is such a true statement. For many years, as a believer in Jesus, I was preoccupied with myself, my failures, my sins, my weaknesses, my shortcomings, my imperfections, my faults, etc...this list goes on and on and on... As a result, I felt guilt, shame, inadequate, unhappy, depressed, inferior, etc...and this list goes on and on and on, too! As you can imagine, I was one miserable person. |

You have prayed for years. You have believed for years. You have had faith for years. Still everything in your life continues to spiral down.
You sought God. You gave your life to God. You asked God for guidance. You asked God for provision. And everything falls apart.
You trusted in God's word that he rewards those who diligently seek him. Yet, rather than reward, you received hurt and pain.
Now you are left with your faith shattered. Your heart hurting. Your hope diminished. |

There are
times in our lives when we become disappointed with God. We become
disappointed because something we longed, prayed, and believed God for
went unfulfilled. Not only did it go unfulfilled, but the exact opposite
happened bringing tremendous pain into our lives. As a result, we
become disappointed with God.
Disappointment
with God can cause us to become bitter and angry toward God. It can
cause us to doubt if God really cares or doubt if God exists at all.
Discouragement and despair sets in. |

Life is filled with pain, problems, and pressures. Each of these drives us to God in prayer. Through prayer, we share our feelings with God and make requests of God. With faith, we continue to pray even though we do not see evidence that God hears our prayers at all. However, after much prayer over the course of a long period of time, we feel as if our prayers have gone unheard and unanswered. Eventually, we reach the point where we want to give up on prayer. We lose hope. We lose confidence. We lose faith. |

When we are going through problems and pain, we often ask God how long will they last. How long will the financial problems last? How long will the unemployment last? How long will the sickness last? How long will the family problems last? How long will I be in this place? How long will I hurt? How long will you abandon me, God? If you find yourself asking God,"How long?", be encouraged. David, described in the Bible as a man after God's own heart, asked the same question.
In Psalm 13, David asked God," |
