Leaving Behind Repentance

Hebrews 6:1 says that if we are to mature in our faith, we must leave behind repentance.

This is in conflict with much of what is taught today by many Bible teachers.

Many believers are taught they need to daily focus on repentance, meaning confessing of sin so they can be forgiven by God, remain holy before God, and so they will not be "out of fellowship with God".

By repentance, they are taught they need to turn from a certain sin and not commit that sin again.

This constant focus on sin keeps believers immature and in bondage to sin because they continually focus on sin and live in fear of being unholy before God and out of fellowship with God.

Why Did Judas Commit Suicide?

Why Did Judas Commit Suicide?

Why does anyone commit suicide?

People take their lives for several reasons.

Reason #1: To Get Love

Some believe by taking their lives they will get the love they long for from their friends, family, and others.

Reason #2: To Give Others A Chance At Happiness

Some believe by taking their lives they will give those they love a chance at happiness.

They see themselves as the cause of the hurt, pain, and problems in the family, and they believe by taking their lives they will be eliminating the source of the hurt, pain, and problems (themselves) and by doing so give their loved ones a chance at happiness.

Goodbye Guilt, Hello Grace!

Guilt...the miserable feeling inside us when we have done something wrong. We have all been there. We know the feeling.

Many people in the Bible knew the feeling too.

Adam and Eve knew it.

Cain knew it.

Noah knew it.

Abraham knew it.

Moses knew it.

David knew it.

Zacchaeus knew it. T

he woman at the well knew it.

The immoral woman knew it.

The woman caught in adultery knew it.

The man outside the temple knew it.

 Peter knew it.

Judas knew it.

Paul knew it.

You know it...I know it.

It's a miserable feeling!

What Is A Spirit-Filled Church?

Following one of our services, when I was a pastor, a first-time visitor told me,This church is not a Spirit-filled church.” I replied, “What do you mean by a Spirit-filled church?” She responded, “Well it is dead. No one raises their hands in worship. No one claps. People just stand there...lifeless. The Spirit is not present. It’s just a dead church.”

Many times we hear people saying their church is a “Spirit-filled church”. Churches even market themselves as a “Spirit-filled church.” By this they mean their church has an emotionally moving praise and worship service facilitated by the praise band where “the Spirit is free to move” and where people outwardly worship God in song.

Ten New Covenant Truths From Hebrews

10 New Covenant Truths From Hebrews

TRUTH #1: The New Covenant (Testament) does not start at Matthew chapter one, the birth of Jesus, but starts with the death of Jesus at the end of Matthew. (I know this sounds strange, but let's look at this through the lens of what is biblical, not at what is traditional).

Then he (Jesus) took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many
for the forgiveness of sins.

Shame Shame Go Away!

Most of us have heard the jingle, “Rain rain go away, come again another day”. And most of us have had these words playing in our minds in some form, “Shame shame go away, don’t ever come back, not any day.” Yet our shame keeps coming back, day after day after day.

Shame is the self-disgust, self-hatred, and self-condemnation we feel toward ourselves for something we have done that we wish we would have never done. In regret, we say demeaning words to ourselves such as,

“I am so dumb.”

“I am so stupid.

Can Fellow Believers Become Addicted To Sin?

"Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load

Buckled Up With The Belt Of Truth

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist...
Ephesians 6:14

We are continuing to study the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. We have discovered that we take our stand against the lies of the devil and his powerful evil forces by standing in grace, or by believing the truths of all that God has freely done for us through Jesus in Ephesians 1,2, and 3. Let's now look take a closer look atstanding firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.

The purpose of a physical belt is to hold all of our clothes together so they do not come apart.

Preoccupation With Myself Made Me Miserable!

Preoccupation with ourselves makes us miserable!I first read this statement from Bob George in his book Classic Christianity. This is such a true statement. For many years, as a believer in Jesus, I was preoccupied with myself, my failures, my sins, my weaknesses, my shortcomings, my imperfections, my faults, etc...this list goes on and on and on... As a result, I felt guilt, shame, inadequate, unhappy, depressed, inferior, etc...and this list goes on and on and on, too! As you can imagine, I was one miserable person.

Excelling In The Grace Of Living

God wants us to excel in the grace of living. To excel means to separate oneself from the rest by going far beyond average in one's accomplishments, service, giving, sacrifice, product, or actions. In describing people, we may say a certain person excels athletically, meaning this person separates himself from the rest of the athletes by going far beyond the average athlete in a certain sport. We may describe a company as one that excels, meaning the company separates itself from the rest of the companies by going far beyond the other companies in its product and service.
