“Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. Watch out for those dogs, those workers of evil, those mutilators of the flesh! For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh.” Philippians 3:1-3 So often when people comment on the meaning of a verse, or apply a verse to their lives, they do so without first determining the author’s original meaning of the verse.

"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be obvious to everyone. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things. |

In my blog,Standing Your Ground By Standing In Grace, we looked at how the devil and his forces of evil seek to destroy our lives by deceiving us with their lies. We looked at the first lie the devil and his evil forces lie to us about, the character of God. Their goal is to distort the character of God with their lies so they can destroy our lives.
InStanding Your Ground By Standing In Grace, we discovered that the devil seeks to distort God's character by diminishing the finished work of Jesus on the cross. |

All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may overflow in thanksgiving to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 4:15
As we reflect on all we have to be thankful for during this Thanksgiving Day, God's grace is at the top of the list. 2 Corinthians 4:15 says, "All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may overflow in thanksgiving to the glory of God." To understand more fully about why God's grace is at the top of our Thanksgiving List, we must first take a close look at the context of this verse starting in 2 Corinthians chapter 3. |

At the very center of God's heart is his love for the world. Everything he does is motivated by his love for the world. Every beat of his heart is a heartbeat of love for the world.
Jesus told us of God's love for the world in John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
The world is made up of people. |

Do you feel far away from God because of guilt? Have you made promises to God and others that you will do better, yet continue to struggle with sin? Do you feel like you could never be close to God because of sin in your life? If you do, you're not alone. Many people feel this way. One of these people was Ted.
Ted, who is a Christian, walked into my office and said, "I thought I could never be close to God again. But because of grace, I realize I can draw close to God. Thank you so much for teaching me about grace |

As I watched this 23 year old young man seek to recover from an overdose of drugs, I could tell he felt empty, lonely, lost, and hopeless. As I watched him, all I could think was how this young man was meant for so much more. He was meant for more than a life of addiction and the pain it brings. He was meant to know God, to enjoy God, and to experience all God has created him to be. So what happened? What went wrong? How did he end up in a hospital bed seeking to recover from an overdose when he was meant for so much more? |

Do you ever wonder what your purpose on earth is? Do you every wonder why you exist? Do you sometimes think about if life has meaning? The reason you wonder if your life has any meaning and purpose is because your life does have purpose and you are trying to discover what it is. You realize there is something inside you yearning for something more to life than just living and dying.
Whatever we see that was created by another person has purpose. A chair has purpose. A computer has purpose. A cell phone has purpose. |
