One of my favorite television shows is Undercover Boss. If you haven't seen it, it's about major companies such as Subway, Moe's, and Popeye's whose CEO's step out of their positions and, in disguise, work side by side their employees. When the CEO's step out from behind their desks and into the real world of their employees, they discover their employees are real people with hurts, pains, problems, struggles, challenges, abilities, goals, and dreams from which they are so often shielded. |

1. Listen To Their Concepts
Those
you lead have great ideas of how to make improvements and advance the
organization. If we create an open environment of listening to those we
lead, we will find many new ideas to improve the organization.

Those
we lead have worries about their own lives and the organization. By
listening to their concerns, we will discover what is bothering them
personally and professionally. |

Departmental meetings can be very productive. Here are two things to avoid and two things to create for effective departmental meetings.
1. Avoid department meetings were the supervisor talks down to everyone.
2. Avoid department meetings where the supervisor tells everyone what to do.
3. Create department meetings where everyone has shared input into the success of the department.
4. Create department meetings where everyone's ideas are valued by sincerely listening to and seeking to implement their ideas. |

So often as leaders, we want to get our thoughts, ideas, directions, and instructions out to those we lead. We want to make sure our voices are being heard and our ways are being followed. There is a time as leaders for our voices to be heard and ways to be followed. Yet, there are times we need to listen to the voices of those we lead. By learning to listen to those we lead we, our organizations, churches, businesses, or teams will become more effective in fulfilling their missions. Great leaders are great listeners. |

Whoever is the leader of an organization, business, team, class, or church will set the climate of the workplace, office, room, clubhouse, etc...each morning immediately when he or she walks into the presence of those being led.
