“Join one another in following my example, brothers, and carefully observe those who live according to the pattern we set for you. For as I have often told you before, and now declare even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body. |

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist... Ephesians 6:14
We are continuing to study the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. We have discovered that we take our stand against the lies of the devil and his powerful evil forces by standing in grace, or by believing the truths of all that God has freely done for us through Jesus in Ephesians 1,2, and 3. Let's now look take a closer look atstanding firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.
The purpose of a physical belt is to hold all of our clothes together so they do not come apart. |

As I watched this 23 year old young man seek to recover from an overdose of drugs, I could tell he felt empty, lonely, lost, and hopeless. As I watched him, all I could think was how this young man was meant for so much more. He was meant for more than a life of addiction and the pain it brings. He was meant to know God, to enjoy God, and to experience all God has created him to be. So what happened? What went wrong? How did he end up in a hospital bed seeking to recover from an overdose when he was meant for so much more? |

STEP #1: Admit You Have A Problem
Many people with addictions try to hide their addictions from others. However, the longer they try to hide their addictions the longer they hurt. The first step to being set free from an addiction is to no longer keep it a secret. Part of the power of an addiction is keeping it private. By admitting to ourselves, God, and others our problem, the power of the addiction begins to be broken.
STEP #2: Understand God's Grace
Our struggle with addictions makes us feel worthless. |

Do you ever wonder what your purpose on earth is? Do you every wonder why you exist? Do you sometimes think about if life has meaning? The reason you wonder if your life has any meaning and purpose is because your life does have purpose and you are trying to discover what it is. You realize there is something inside you yearning for something more to life than just living and dying.
Whatever we see that was created by another person has purpose. A chair has purpose. A computer has purpose. A cell phone has purpose. |
